President Bush has selected Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute to be the administration’s war czar, or person to oversee all military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, or person to be blamed when military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan fail. Sadly, Lute will not wear one of those Russian fur hats, although he is expected to start drinking heavily pretty soon.
The Pentagon has apparently misplaced $2.3 trillion. That’s trillion with a TR. “According to some estimates we cannot track $2.3 trillion in transactions,” admitted former head honcho Donald Rumsfeld. His successor, Robert Gates, was more optimistic, claiming that “Pentagon employees are hard at work, turning over every couch cushion in the building as we speak.”
